Further Update on BBC Radio 3 Choir of the Year Competition
We are delighted to announce that the Choir have been successful in winning the overall title of BBC Radio 3 Choir of the Year at the Royal Festival Hall on 7 December 2008. It was a fantastic competition and very close with only one point separating the top two choirs. We are all overwhelmed and extremely happy and proud with our win but equally we applaud the excellent performance given by the Cottontown Chorus. This success follows the choir winning the Open Category Choir of the Year competition held in November at the Liverpool Philharmonic.
The hard work and dedication from these young choristers, Music Director and supporters has been justly rewarded. We would also like to say a big thank you to our supporters who made the journey to London (and previously to Liverpool) to cheer us all on. It was delightful to see so many parents and patrons joining in this celebration which is not only about what the choristers, Music Director and Committee have achieved but also about the support and dedication of parents who have for a long time been asked to ensure the choristers attended extra rehearsals. We hope they, like us, will enjoy a very merry and relaxing Christmas and wish everyone of you a happy new year.
Please feel free to leave your comments and good wishes via the Contact Us link on the left of this page.
It seems a long time ago since we first put our bid in for funding to help the Choir secure the support of a Movement Coach to work with the choristers in preparation for the BBC Radio 3 Choir of the Year competition. HeartWell gave the choir £450 to start their campaign for BBC Radio 3 Choir of the Year which was held in Sheffield in May.

Leaving early in the day at 8.00 am, we travelled in strong winds to Gateshead where we were met by snow. After giving their performance, the choristers were treat to a visit to the Discovery Museum before having something to eat at Harry Ramsdens and making the long journey back to Scunthorpe. Luckily the snow stopped. It was a very good day and all Choristers were excellent and a credit to all. Pictures can be found in the photo album section.
'Look All Around You Again'
His Royal Highness Prince Seeiso of Lesotho was the guest of honour at a 'Look All Around You Again' concert held at the Plowright Theatre on 25 January 2008.
Scunthorpe Co-operative Junior Choir were delighted to be invited to entertain the Prince at the concert which was arranged this year to raise money for the village of Malealea, in the African nation of Lesotho. The country, officially the Kingdom of Lesotho, is land-locked and entirely surrounded by the Republic of South Africa. The country of Lesotho is ravaged with disease and is one of the poorest in the world. Many parents have died of Aids, forcing their children to work to fund schooling. In the southern African country, fees for high school are £3 a week but those working earn less than 60p a day.

Michael is a native of Grimsby who trained at the Guildhall School of Music in London. His professional singing career has taken him around the world and includes a spell as a member of the famous Swingle Singers. As well as singing several Christmas items on their own, the choir accompanied Michael in several Solo items from his repertoire of film, musical and popular songs.

Festival of Christmas Trees 2007 - Training Choirs
The two training choirs sang and entertained a large audience at St Mark's Church Hall at the Rotary Club's Festival of Christmas Trees held on 2 December. They have been busy making and decorating a christmas tree that was on show at the festival.
Below is one of the Training Choirs stood in front of their tree. They were very proud of the final display and rightly so, as it looked fabulous and was clear to see the hard work and commitment put into it. Congratulations to all.
And not forgetting of course the middle choir who also entertained everyone with their repertoire of Christmas songs.
